Efficiency Is Overrated. Just Ask Monkey King.
This week, I get roasted for hiding my sense of urgency behind “efficiency.” Turns out, traffic—and a tea-sipping Monkey King—are my best teachers in the art of waiting.
I hate waiting.
I call it “being efficient.” MK (aka Monkey King) calls it what it is—urgency in disguise.
Traffic is my best (and worst) mirror for this.
I can measure my calm by how I feel when I get stuck behind a slow driver—especially in LA, where lane choice feels like a high-stakes bet.
Some days I’m Zen: Sure, we’re all just flowing together. Go ahead, cut in.
Other days, my inner coyote wants to weave through every gap in the herd of sheep.
This week’s Trickster Talks is about that canyon between noticing and insight—the place where waiting lives.
And MK does not pull his punches. Let’s just say my Waze addiction gets roasted.

(In which Monkey King sips tea and reminds me that efficiency is overrated.)
Last week, I was a guest on a podcast and mentioned talking with MK—one of my childhood heroes. The host lit up at the idea of having conversations with the characters who shaped us.
Who’s in your kitchen cabinet?
The real or imagined crew you turn to for wisdom, laughs, or a good nudge forward.
Efficiency is overrated. Just ask MK.
Quickly,
Omar 🌱 + MK 🐒
p.s. Apologies to all Prius drivers…on so many levels.
p.p.s. Do you have a question for MK? He will tell you the truth.
